Before joining Independence Plus, I didn’t know much about ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). Like so many, my limited knowledge was associated with baseball legend, Lou Gehrig. Today is a much different story. Watch me take the Ice Bucket Challenge to spread awareness of ALS!

Sara’s Home Makeover
Special Spaces Chicagoland approached Sara, age 10, and her parents earlier this year to transform Sara’s bedroom into a dream world. But Sara’s friends, nurses, and community had something even better in mind that would infuse joy and meaning into Sara’s entire home.

A Mission to Serve
“I’ve always volunteered my time to serve others,” Julie Hanson, BSN, RN, Clinical Education Manager continues, “I believe it’s our purpose as human beings.” In February, Julie, along with members of her church, organized a medical and humantiarian mission to the Philippines. They raised $23,000 (more than double their goal!) and treated more than 1,500 people.

Get Out, Enjoy Life!
Our friends over at Wheel:Life, a global online community for people who use wheelchairs, are hosting their third annual “Get Out, Enjoy Life!” photo contest. The contest encourages people who use wheelchairs to get out of the house and enjoy their summer by attending events, going on vacation, or trying a new activity.

Get Your Walk On: A Look Inside Our Wellness Program
